Be a Volunteer

Tuesday, 29 Jun 2010

It’s summer time and it seems that some of us might be out of school and have some free time on our hands. How about volunteering somewhere in the community? It’s so rewarding, you can meet new people, and it could lead to employment in the future. Here’s a list of my favorite places to volunteer in Mountain View. Please feel free to add to this list by leaving your ideas in the “comments” area below.

Chamber of Commerce: because you love the annual Art & Wine Festival!

Green Mountain View because you care about the environment.

Deer Hollow Farm: because pulling weeds and feeding pigs is fun.

Hidden Villa: because you aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty and you want to learn about organic farming.

Library Services: because shelving books is perfect for your super-organized personality.

Mountain View Police Explorers: learn teamwork, responsibility and decide whether or not a career in Law Enforcement is for you.

Community Services Agency: work in their Food Pantry, visit homebound elderly or help in the Holiday Toy Store.

Avenidas: help with daily activities or in the cafeteria of the Mountain View or Palo Alto facility

Mountain View Day Worker Center: have ESL conversations with the workers, ESL tutoring, graphic design, and help create a presence on social networking websites.

Humane Society of Silicon Valley: because you love animals and they love you.

YMCA: find out about the “Leadership in Training” program by contacting your local Y.

City of Mountain View ‘Leader in Training’ Summer Program: become an official volunteer for the city of Mountain View (get ready to apply for next summer!)

  1. Thanks Kristina. Those are also great options for volunteer hours.

  2. Shoreline at Mountain View and Rengstorff House are other terrific options in your local area! To learn about becoming a Patrol Ranger, Gatehouse Attendant, Environmental Docent, Rengstorff House Docent, Garden Volunteer, or to schedule a group volunteer project, contact Kristina.Rockhold@mountainview.gov!
