El Calderon Restaurant
Have you been to El Calderon yet? If you haven’t, why on earth not? It is the cutest little Salvadorian restaurant at the intersection of Calderon Avenue and Church Street. If you’re new to the area, you probably don’t realize that this fine eating establishment has blessed Mountain View with the most amazing pupusas for the last 30 years. If you’re not sure how to eat a pupusa, Roberto will give you a few tips. Be sure to get the deep fried cassava to go with them. Don’t be shy—they’re wonderful.
Some of the items on the menu sound like they would taste like Mexican food, but don’t be misled. Salvadoran food is different and if you want to learn the subtle differences, you need to jump right in and try everything. Be sure to save room for their famous flan.
And one more thing that we love about this place is the funky décor. From the vintage ceramic chickens to the black velvet painting, we found it completely charming.
And as you walk in, please be sure to notice the “I Love MV.org” sticker strategically placed on the front door. No, we didn’t put it there, Roberto did it!

I love Honor’s idea about doing your laundry while you’re having a meal at El Calderon!
Yup, this is another of Mtn. View’s best kept secrets!! Castro St. doesn’t have all of the fine dining in town!! And if you plan ahead, why not bring your dirty duds, pop them into the nice, clean machines at the nearby laundro-mat and go next door for a delish dinner at El Calderon?!! Oh yeah, be sure to buy a winning lotto ticket at the little family owned mini-mart in the same center, too. Its a win-win evening out, no matter!!
I love this place me and my family have been going there for years.. Come on let’s support our local guys….
