Fourth of July

Thursday, 01 Jul 2010

Mountain View has all kinds of wonderful, patriotic things going on for the Fourth of July this year. The Rengstorff House is having its first “Fashion Promenade” which will feature fashions from the Victorian era. The Rengstorff House is the oldest house in Mountain View and is fully restored. The Sunday Fourth of July promenade event will start at the Rengstorff House at 2:00. You can arrive before and register. Everyone is welcome to stroll along with the costumed participants. They’re expecting numerous history buffs and members of different costume guilds to be part of the festivities. If you have your own Victorian attire, now is the perfect time to show it off. If you don’t, please join in the fun by wearing red, white and blue. The route that the small parade will be strolling along is about ¾ of a mile and on a flat paved trail. The event is designed to celebrate Independence Day, but also to increase awareness and vitality of our Rengstorff House. This house is a prized jewel for our city. There are more details about this event at the city website. The white dress in the photo is being modeled by Kristina Rockhold of the Rengstorff House. It is designed to resemble a Victoria dress that was worn to a Fourth of July party at the New Almaden Mine in 1898. Kristina will be wearing this dress at our Fourth of July party.

There will also be marionette vaudeville show and a jazz band. Tours of the house will be available all day. The Shoreline Lake Aquatic Center and Cafe offers pedalboats, canoes, kayaks and bicycles. There will be Victorian age skipper sailboat. Have you ever been on one of those? Now is your chance. Rides will be offered all day long.

Michael’s at Shoreline will have special Red White and Blue Pancakes on the menu in the morning. You can get a picnic basket from Lakeside Café for lunch and for dinner you can join Michaels restaurant for a Santa Maria BBQ (with chicken and tri-tip) from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. The fireworks will be set off from Shoreline Amphitheatre and will be visible from anywhere in that part of Mountain View. It’s really an all-day-long event! Worried about parking? You might want to ride your bikes on the Stevens Creek Trail instead of driving. Everyone be safe and have a happy Fourth of July.
