We have a fun project for the entire family; organic gardening! Take a free class on how to make your own compost. Or, if worms are more your style, you might enjoy worm composting. Here’s how to get started making the bins that your worms will live in. And if you want to use organic matter in your yard, but you just don’t have the time or space to make your own compost, you can get free ready-made compost at the Sunnyvale Smart Station. Once you’ve figured out how easy it is to grow an organic garden, you’ll have tomatoes coming out your ears and you’ll be giving away zucchini to the entire neighborhood. Plus, organic gardening is a great way to show respect for Mother Earth. If you don’t have a yard to plant a garden, you can apply for a plot at the Willowgate Community Garden,

Aspirin? Wow, I didn’t know about that trick. I do love the front yards around town that have veggie gardens in them and less of a manicured look.
…a stroll down Loreto St. (between Bush St. and Calderon) will be a visual treat for those interested in composting and organic/urban farming!! No, really. Quite a few of the homeowners on that street have turned over their front lawns to veggie gardening, and there are some pretty interesting renditions to be seen!! If you hang out long enough, you’ll even have a chance to talk to one or more of the “farmers” and learn a thing or two..did you know that your home grown tomatoes will do a whole lot better if you plant them (well, in good soil to be sure) with some aspirin, even a sprinkling of egg shells and a banana peel or two?!! See? Isn’t it worth a walk over to Palmita Park (Loreto and Velarde Sts.) to find out these things first hand? What are you waiting for?…
