Green Dentist: Malek Dental
A friend of mine told me that Mountain View has a “green dentist” so I went to see for myself. It’s true. Dr. Pedram Malek opened his practice, Malek Dental, almost 2 years ago and it’s very different from the usual dental office. I was pleasantly surprised.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in the door is that Dr. Malek’s office felt like I was walking into a spa. There was soothing music playing, a small fountain bubbling in the corner, and tasteful green décor. Patients can help themselves to hot tea while waiting for their appointment. And, if I can be completely honest with you, the office doesn’t have the usual dentist’s office smell. This is because Malek Dental is a Certified Green Business and they don’t use the toxic chemicals that conventional dental offices use. They use green, eco-friendly disinfectants instead.
Dr. Malek spoke with me for a few minutes about his commitment to the environment and how important it is for us to be aware that “we’re at a crossroad right now” in regards to how we treat the earth. Apparently the dental industry has traditionally created a great deal of waste because so much plastic and paper was used to wrap instruments, cover chairs, wrap light handles and as patient bibs. 
The tips of some of the tools were traditionally plastic and disposable. Instead of doing what has always been done, Dr. Malek is using fabric to wrap sterile instruments and as patient bibs. There is much less waste in his office. And the plastic tips of some of the instruments are now metal and can be cleaned by steam. Malek is a member of the Eco-Dentistry Association and is very passionate about connecting with patients who also want to be kind to the earth. He’s perfect for Mountain View.
Patients are asked if they want to listen to an ipod or watch a movie while in the dental chair. They are also offered a lavender scented neck-wrap, an eye-mask and a warm towel. The x-rays are all digital which means much less radiation is used and there are no chemicals used to process the images. The patient records are also all digital, so there is much less paper used than in other dental practices.
Dr. Malek’s office is located in Two Worlds Complex at the corner of Calderon and El Camino Real in Mountain View. He’s local, he cares about the environment, and he loves Mountain View as much as the rest of us.
And while it may sound sexist, I just have to say that Dr. Malek is one of the HOTTEST men I’ve ever seen – all this while on top of being a gentle, excellent dentist, with a great sense of humor, wonderful personality, and friendly spirit – his wife is one lucky woman and I’d trade places with her in an instant!

One thing that his patients should know is that the statement that I am making now is the result of more than 10 years of friendship with this great doctor. he is not only a great doctor, but also one of the best men that one can find in today’s world.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Malek for about a year now. You forgot to mention that he doesn’t nag you for not flossing and is a really great dentist!
