Vintage Mountain View

pigsCan you imagine what Mountain View was like 150 years ago? For a peek take the family to Deer Hollow Farm at Rancho San Antonio Open Space for a peek at a homestead from 1859. Pick up a brochure at the entrance and take the self-guided tour. The farm has goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens and rabbits. Be sure to read the signs and follow the rules. Farm animals like quiet children, so use your “quiet voice” at Deer Hollow. And, as tempting as it is to feed the animals, it’s not allowed. Don’t be surprised that the pigs just lay around all day and ignore you. On the other hand, the goats will be happy to see your family and they just might come over to the fence for a pet on the nose. The farm is a 1 mile walk from the parking area. We recommend bringing a stroller or a wagon if any of your family members have short little legs. On the way home, you may be in need of an ice cream sundae. Thankfully, Mountain View has two Baskin Robbins locations and you don’t need to use the wooden hand-crank ice cream makers that would have been used on the farm. Boy-oh-boy—are we ever happy about that!
