In Search Of The Perfect Halloween Costume

Tuesday, 13 Oct 2009

scary maskBStill in search of the perfect Halloween costume? Here’s a list of our favorite places:

Debbie Lyn’s Costumes has one of the most extensive selections of costumes in all of the bay area, including rentals and custom costumes. They have an entire wall of feather boas! Some of the categories in the rental area include renaissance, decade dressing, super-heroes, story-book characters and the “I’m too sexy for my costume” category was our favorite. This year is their 17th Halloween, so they know what they’re doing.

They have a “Wig and Makeup Room” and offer advice on application of the theatrical make-up. The wigs come in everything from outrageous fantasy styles and colors to human hair moustaches and beards and all different kinds of false eyelashes, including metallic. We even saw some fangs that were made by a dentist. Debbie’s is open year round and the staff is very knowledgeable and experienced. We like that!

Yes, we know that our website is all about fun things happening in Mountain View, and Debbie Lyn’s is in Sunnyvale, but we still love them.

Diddams recently expanded their Mountain View store and now has even more fake blood, pirate swords, wigs and glittery tutus.

Spirit Halloween Costumes has a wide variety of Halloween costumes, including all the usual sexy ones, but specializes in scary monsters and Halloween party decorations like spooky tombstones, strobe lights, hanging mummies, zombie babies, and rubber rodents and spiders.

Goodwill Stores of Silicon Valley is the place to go if you need an 80’s bridesmaid dress or a brown polyester leisure-suit that you can slash up and cover with fake blood. They save any items that would work well as a costume and put them out at this time of the year and each Goodwill store has a completely different selection from the next. If you’re feeling creative, this is definitely the place to go!

And we also think that Walmart and Target have a nice selection of costumes.
