Need a Barber?
I first noticed Modern Barber Shop while purchasing a lottery ticket at the grocery store next door to it on Moffett Blvd. It’s the perfect little barber shop right in the heart of Mountain View. After a friendly conversation with the owner and long time barber, Rob Navarro, I discovered that Modern Barber had been in our city since the 1920s! It opened on Castro Street and changed hands a few times before it moved locations to Moffett.
Rob Navarro was born and raised right here and has been a barber in Mountain View for 44 years. His great grandfather, Harry Burke, was once the mayor of Mountain View and was also the last blacksmith in our city. It’s safe to say that Rob knows everyone in Mountain View!
After spending a few minutes inside, watching customers come and go and listening to them visit with Rob, I realized that caring for the community and his customers is just as important to owning a barber shop as cutting the customer’s hair. Rob cares.
Modern Barber is a very traditional looking barber shop with the striped barber’s poles, sports memorabilia, a television in the corner and a patriotic color scheme. I commented on how traditional the shop is and Rob said, “Yep, even have Playboy magazine” as he grinned. I glanced at the magazines and noted that he also has Cooking Light and Gourmet.
I really like this little barber shop and if you want the full barber-chair experience and a really friendly staff, I think you’ll be happy with Modern Barber. And don’t forget to buy your lottery ticket next door.

I get my hair cut always by Rob. He does an excellent job and you really get a good haircut for his low price ($18). Much better than Supercuts, or Hair International (where I used to go). Rob is also a big, true sports fan, so if you are into sports, he’s your man.
Dear author of ilovemv.org,
I absolutely with agree with you. A haircut is aleays a good idea.
This article is just in time for me to find a new barber. I have been cutting my own hair ever since I ditched my Los Altos barber shop. So needless to say I could use a real barber again.
This is great, a little piece of Americana right in our backyard. This is why I love the Mountain View—high-tech and low-tech blending into a beautiful gradient that we call culture. Poetic, I know.
