Let’s Have a Drink at Sakoon
Sakoon Indian Restaurant has quickly gained recognition for their fabulous food. They just received an “Inspectors Favorite Award” from the Michelin Guide and have been written about in numerous articles and glowing reviews. I wholeheartedly agree that the food is amazing, but I neglected to notice the outstanding drink menu, until now.
Sakoon has a special section of their drink menu called “Naughty and Flirty Theater Martinis.” These drinks were all designed around Bollywood films and the fact that we have so many people out to dinner just before or after seeing a show at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. Think of it as a Bollywood-meets-Mountain View martini!
The color of the liqueur, fruit juice and garnish were carefully considered by Sakoon general manager and sommelier, Nirupama Srivastava, when she created each drink. For example the Monsoon Wedding Martini has blue liqueur to represent the ocean and is rimmed in red-sugar rim because wedding dresses are traditionally red in India. Another Bollywood themed drink is the Bride and Prejudice Martini which has an orchid as garnish because the bride usually carries orchids. There is also a Mistress of Spice, The Guru, and the Kamasutra which is designed with pomegranate and cranberry juices and both of those are considered to be aphrodisiacs. You be the judge.
Sakoon donates $1.00 to an organization called Cancer Connection for each bottle of wine that is sold. And I can’t possible talk about Sakoon without mentioning the incredibly sexy decor of the restaurant. The walls have black shiny mosaic tile, there are fiber-optic lights, glowing floor panels and a big friendly Buddha to greet you at the door. The bar is curved and beautiful and unlike anything else downtown. The feeling I got the first time I stepped in the door was that Sakoon was lively, inviting and hip. It’s definitely not at all the average Indian restaurant environment, to say the very least.
This would be a wonderful place for a holiday drink with friends. Sakoon is another reason to love Mountain View.

I have not had the chance to dine at this restaurant but the fact that they have a great drink menu makes me want to invite a few friends and enjoy a great evening out. I am sure from this sterling article we will have a great time. My review to follow.
