Nami Nami Restaurant
We went to Kappo Nami Nami on Castro Street for dinner one night last week. I love that this place seems so traditional Japanese. We started with Tsukemono, plum wine and a 3 piece Sake sampler. One of the little pickles had an amazing smoked flavor and I could have eaten a bucket of it. The menu items are all served small-plate-style so we ordered all different kinds of items and shared everything. I noticed others around us doing the same thing.
One way to judge how authentic a Japanese restaurant is might be to see if California Roll is on the menu… and it isn’t at Kappo Nami Nami. And another way might be to look around are the customers. Many of them are Japanese at this fabulous place. Everything was presented beautifully, edible works of art. The lighting is elegant and romantic during dinner and customers sit and enjoy their meals for longer than usual at this restaurant. The waitress never hurried anyone away as soon as they were done eating by bring the bill quickly or cleaning off the table too fast. It’s so relaxing to sit at the table and not be rushed out so more customers can have your table.
I’ll have to wait until next time to try the Beef Tongue stew because it was sold out. The waitress told me that it’s very popular. We’ll definitely be adding Kappo Nami Nami to our list of favorite restaurants. I just love downtown Mountain View.
