Aerobic Dance Classes
I’m pretty sure you’ve noticed the exercise class that is held at the Masonic Lodge three days a week. I just started going to this class on a regular basis and thought it would be a nice activity to share with everyone.
Some of the other women in this class have been going for over 20 years and they’re in excellent shape. The instructor, Joan Rabin, has been teaching it in Mountain View for decades and she’s in phenomenal condition. A new session (which is 3 months long) just started on Sept. 13th. Each session has about 10 new dances that we all learn together. Everyone brings a yoga mat for the floor routines. And there is childcare provided as well.
It takes a while to figure out the steps. Needless to say, I’m not there yet. I haven’t actually crashed into anyone on the dance floor, but I’m having fun and slowly getting better at the dances. It’s a great workout and I think that’s what’s important.
Joan is a great instructor and she cues the dances with a head-set microphone. The best part is that often she sings along to the songs, including Lady Gaga Paparazzi and Katy Perry California Gurls. Here’s a link to a short video of some people in a class that is very similar to the one in Mountain View, but this video was taken someplace else. I didn’t think I could get a room full of women to agree as to whether or not I could videotape them at my class, so I didn’t even ask. You can just watch these random strangers doing a few steps!
You can also stop by the class and watch for a few minutes. It’s outrageously popular, but Joan will let you know if there’s room for you to join, depending on which days per week you want to come. The class is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 am to 10 am. The company is called Jacki’s Aerobic Dancing. It’s a very social group, understandably so since many of them have been exercising together for years. The first thing that I noticed about the group is how fit they look. It’s pretty much an entire room full of slender women. Oh, and there’s one man that comes with his wife. Some of them are very graceful and others stomp around like me, but we’re all getting fit and having fun. After all, if exercise isn’t fun, you won’t want to do it.

So glad you joined us, Heidi! It is a hoot. The floor workout is the BEST!
