Dishcrawl Lunch Truck Events

Tuesday, 24 May 2011

I went to a Dishcrawl event today. This was the second Mountain View Dishcrawl event that I’ve been to recently. It’s a great way to discover trendy new food trucks in the area. Tickets are sold in advance and they don’t tell you the exact location until right before everyone meets for lunch. Don’t worry; it really works as long as you check your email. They promise to feed 60 people in 60 minutes. You have to show up on time and with a ticket. To find out about Dishcrawl events, visit their website and add your name to the mailing list.

Both of the Dishcrawls that I went to were at the Hacker Dojo. The food at the first one about a month ago was by “Tikka Bytes.” It was outstanding Indian food and they gave us huge servings. Today the food truck was called “Eat on Monday.” The Eat on Monday truck was started by the son of the people that own Café Yulong in downtown Mountain View. Café Yulong was normally closed on Mondays until Robert, their son, started to run his own lunch business out of the family restaurant. It was a completely different menu from the regular restaurant menu. And it was quite popular with the downtown crowd. It made perfect sense to start his own business in a super hip lunch truck. That explains the unusual name of his lunch truck, Eat on Monday.
Today Robert spoke to the group about how he tries to use local, organic items as often as possible. He served us Simple Belly Buns, Shrimp Tacos, OMG Chicken Wings, Daikon Ricecake and Organic Fried Milk. After you discover a food truck that you like through Dishcrawl, you can follow them directly through their blog, Twitter or Facebook to see where they will be for future meals. I follow about 10 or 15 different food trucks via Twitter. They move around a great deal and take requests from companies that want to invite them to their parking lot. Eat on Monday was wonderful food and I’ll be back for more. Thanks Dishcrawl for bringing fabulous lunch trucks to Mountain View.

Dishcrawls are fun. Haven’t been to the Truck crawls, but been to several restaurant crawls and we need to talk Tracy in to a downtown Mountain View Dishcrawl.

We have Eat on Monday every other week on Thursdays at 331 East Evelyn. Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich today, but I really love the Pork Belly and Duck tacos and steamed buns.

We have trucks every Wed and Thurs. Sam’s Chowdermobile is the most popular. Looks like we’ll be adding Tuesdays to the schedule in July.

I have a Google Calendar with the schedule at my blog: http://www.foodfestfrenzy.com/

We used to have trucks 4 days/week, but a couple tenants moved out last year and things got spotty, so we focused on just two days per week. Looks like we have one tenant moving back in soon and that’s why we’re adding Tuesday back to the schedule.
