Global Trust Bank
A friend of mine recently told me about a start-up bank that is in Mountain View, Global Trust Bank. I went there this week and talked to them. There’s only one branch and its here in our city. They call themselves a “start-up bank.” I liked hearing those words because we probably all tend to think of start-ups as high-tech companies, but there are other fledgling companies all around us. Global Trust Bank is a Mountain View bank and all of its employees came from other community banks. They live right here in our neighborhoods and they know Mountain View. They’re familiar with our property values, new developments in the city and the expansion of the trail. Somehow it makes me feel more comfortable to know that I’m doing business with someone who is local. Not that I have anything against non-locals, I just like it when the other person knows this area as well as I do. And I like that the employees have a large emotional investment in whether or not the bank is successful because they’re from this area.
If I called Global Trust Bank I would be able to speak directly with someone who could take care of anything I needed, like extending my credit limit on my debit card or even making me a new debit card if I needed one. I used to be so disappointed when my other bank would tell me to wait for my new debit card to come in the mail and that it would take a week. Since they don’t have any ATMs, they told me that their customers can use any ATM and that they’ll pay the transaction fees for the customers. You know how you get charged 3.00 every time you use someone’s ATM, not anymore! That’s the best news I’ve heard all week!
Global Trust Bank opened right at the height of the bank failures a few years ago. They survived and business is going well. The bank was founded by Jim Wall. He also founded the Bank of Los Altos and people in Mountain View know him. Global Trust Bank has lots of connections to Mountain View businesses. And one of the best things about doing business at a bank that wrote their own rules is that they can change their rules anytime they want to in order to help the community. I just love Mountain View.
