Savvy Cellar Opens
Have you noticed all the excitement at the train depot? The Savvy Cellar Wine Bar and Wine Shop grand opening is this Thursday! They’re actually in a “soft-opening” phase this week and special events are planned for almost everyday. They’ll be open regular hours as of Thursday and the whole world is welcome to come.
The building is a replica of Mountain View’s original train station from 1888. It was built for the centennial celebration. It’s been vacant for the last 8 years and all kinds of ideas have bounced around the community about what kind of business should go into that space. Nothing ever panned out, until now. Here’s an article that the Voice published about Savvy Cellar.
I went to the Old Mountain View Neighborhood Association mixer on Monday night. The new wine shop is so inviting and exciting. Mountain View is going to love having them on Castro Street. The interior walls are a warm red and mustard, the bar is a bright polished copper and the light fixtures are modern and hip. They have some nice train-related photography done by a local artist. I was interested in what would happen when a train went by and it just added to the excitement. People continued talking and no one even seemed to notice.
You can purchase wine by the glass or bottle. Or both, which is what I did. They offer classes, tastings, and special events for both members and non-members. The owners, Jennifer Ayre and Brent Harrison, have another wine store in Redwood City and are happy to finally have a store in Mountain View. They live just down the street from the new store and will be spending lots of time getting to know our community.
Jennifer told me that they were also going to be open on Sundays in hopes that the Farmers Market customers would also want a glass of wine in the afternoon. I think that’s a fun idea—go pick up some corn on the cob and a pound of tomatoes at the market and then have a glass of wine on my way home. Or to buy what I need to make an incredible Sunday dinner, then stop by Savvy Cellar to purchase a bottle of wine that will go perfectly with my dinner.
I loved the event that I went to this week and I think it’s wonderful news that something vibrant has finally opened in this special heart-of-the-city location. We’ve all waited years for something to happen here and now we’re ready to welcome Savvy Cellar Wine Bar and Wine Shop to Mountain View.

Looking forward to checking this out. Just haven’t had an excuse. Wait, why do I need one?

Plastic cups? I love that idea~ I’ll ask them next time I go.
This is so exciting! I had read in the Voice some time ago that they would also be offering plastic cups for folks to take wine on the train. Wonder if that’s still the plan? Such a great location! I can’t wait to check it out!
