Meet Ronit Bryant

Thursday, 07 Jan 2010

Ronit BryantRonit Bryant was sworn in as the Mayor of Mountain View on January 5th, 2010. She has already been on City Council for the last 3 years and she’ll be up for reelection this year.

Ronit is originally from Israel and moved to Mountain View in 1983. She and her husband live in downtown Mountain View and raised their family here. Their children, who are now grown and out of the house, attended Landels and Slater schools.

She mentioned how she felt about Mountain View the first time she saw it—she wanted to live here. Being able to walk downtown was important to her and her house is within walking distance of everything. She enjoys visiting our Farmers Market and caring for her garden. She talked a bit about her Portuguese Water dog. Her dog is rather energetic sometimes and likes to tear apart the drip irrigation system in the yard. It makes me feel good to know that even the mayor has a crazy dog that causes trouble.

When I asked her what she wanted to focus on while she is the mayor, she said it would be the same things that the city is already working on, including keeping the city very “walkable”, being a green community with sustainable practices, and reaching out to all ethnic groups.

Thank you Ronit for being willing to serve as mayor of our city. And thank you to outgoing mayor, Margaret Abe-Koga, for your commitment to our community. Ronit will have “Meet with Ronit” sessions at the Bean Scene cafe on Thursdays from 9 to 10 am starting Jan. 7. The Bean Scene is located on the corner of Castro and Mercy streets and has a big water fountain in front. Please stop by and introduce yourself to Ronit and try to make it to a few City Council meetings in 2010.
