Someone recently told me about the biggest slices of pizza in Mountain View. I went to New York Pizza to see for myself and Dave C. was correct. Thanks for the tip. It’s in the shopping center on Grant Road a few doors down from Rite Aid. I went with a friend and we were both amazed by the size of our slices, and that it was so good. Thankfully, this place isn’t just focused on size—it’s both fabulous and massive. It’s just a tiny hole-in-the-wall place with a steady flow of customers. About half of the customers I saw got their pizza to go and I’ll probably do that next time too. I’ll take mine to Cuesta Park. I just love Mountain View.

We just happen to have a Dirty Martini expert on staff at the Chamber of Commerce and with a bit of bribing, she was willing to share her secret. Go to Kapp’s Pizza Bar and Grill and sit at the bar around 5:30 on a weekday. You’ll be mingling with employees from several new start-ups on Castro or perhaps a few of the more seasoned experts who are simply relaxing after a hard day of selling software. Here’s the important part: Don’t just order a martini, but politely ask them to give you 3 green olives hand-stuffed with bleu cheese and Grey Goose vodka. You’re in for a treat and you just might become a regular. Be sure to tip well since you’re going to be coming back on a regular basis. She also recommends the deep-fried Mozzarella Sticks before you get started on your Islander Pizza. You’ll thank us for this one.

Robots and Pepperoni Pizza

We felt like we were on the set of a 1960s Sci-Fi movie! The Computer History Museum has artifacts dating back 3000 years up to the modern iPod, but some of the crowd favorites were the 1969 “Kitchen Computer” which was advertised for $10,000.00 in the Neiman Marcus catalog and the adorable little robot that looks like R2-D2’s cousin. Did you know that the first computer was designed over 150 years ago? It’s true. Imagine a calculator that weighs 5 tons, or maybe you should just go see it in person. The information age is being preserved right here in Mountain View! After visiting the museum, walk across Pear Street to Pizzeria Venti. It’s at the end of a small row of shops. They have pleasant patio seating and the inside is spectacular with Italian music softly playing and a mouth-watering selection of pizzas and red wines. We hear that the Mango Salad is a local favorite. This place is popular with the concert crowds on their way to a show and perfect for dinner before a movie. You have our word—you will not be disappointed!

Fire Works Ceramics: Grandma Just Loves Your Artwork

“Everyone follow me now. We’re all going to Fire Works Ceramics and we’re going to make a present for Grandma.” This place is the perfect way for the family to spend an afternoon and the owners just love children. Why not have each family member make their own dinner plate or mug and then you’ll own an entire (very unique) set? All of the ceramic items have already been fired once, you just paint pretty designs on them and then they will be dipped in clear glaze and fired a second time. Or paint the palm of your hand a fun color and make a hand print in the middle of a salad plate! It’s common knowledge that Grandmas just love little hand prints.

And the perfect family restaurant for dinner is Amici’s on Castro Street just blocks away. Amici’s loves kids and kids love their special Kids Menu.

You’ll return to Fire Works next week to pick up your freshly fired ceramics. You might want to swing by Amici’s one more time as well. This whole ceramics-n-pizza thing is going to be very addictive!
