Fabmo needs a new location. I certainly hope you know about this wonderful organization already, and how they’re diverting tons of designer samples from landfill. They collect materials from 60 Bay Area showrooms every week, and have distribution events where local artists, crafters, educators and charitable organizations get to take home as much as they want. Makers-of-all-kinds, from up and down the state, get their supplies from Fabmo. Those fabulous pieces of fabric, leather, wallpaper, tile and even wood have been turned into beautiful pillows, table runners, tote bags, jewelry, clothing, toys and so much more. Sounds too good to be true, right? It’s happening right here in our community.
Anyway, they’re looking for a place within 10 miles of the current one, which is at 970 Terra Bella, in Mountain View. They want a warehouse/flex space of 2000-4000 square feet, and they’re budget is $8000 a month. Keep in mind that they’re a 501(c)3, so a property owner may be able to claim a tax deduction if the space was donated.
I love that this organization is in our community and I go to some of the distribution events. Sometimes I bring home things that I have no idea what I’m going to do with, but I still want. I don’t even know how to sew, and I bring home fabric samples. The samples are unlike anything you could find at a local fabric store. It’s my chance to score things that are high-end-designer, and I convince myself that I can find a way to use them. Usually I figure something out. Check out the “Inspiration” gallery on their website.
