Google Charleston East Campus just broke ground this week. There were plenty of elected officials, city employees, and people from our community, and beyond, who helped make this project possible. The Chamber brought board members and ambassadors. I was thrilled to be part of it! The company that will be building the "dome" is Hathaway Dinwiddie and they are the same group that built the TransAmerica Building in San Francisco and the J Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. They're known for creating iconic places that everyone recognizes and loves.
This building will be the front door to Google, and we would expect nothing less than fabulous. I'm so exciting to be able to watch this project from the ground up. By the way, this is Google's first "from the ground up" building in our community. There will be about 600 construction workers working on the building.
To read more about this project, you might want to check out this article. That article has some gorgeous renderings of the completed building. In the mean time, please enjoy these photos that I took on a cool, windy day, on an empty lot, where two years from now, there will be something spectacular for all of us to enjoy. Thank you Google.
