Mountain View is one of the most affluent communities in the country. Yet in the middle of all this prosperity and wealth, there are lots of disadvantaged students that need the help of a supporter, someone to listen to them, and be a role model. That’s where Mentor Tutor Connection comes in. They serve the at-risk students in the public schools of Los Altos and Mountain View, grades 1 through 12. They offer tutoring, assistance with homework, and mentoring.

Mentor Tutor Connection is celebrating their 23rd year in our community. The annual MTC Fundraiser event is at the Mountain View Recreation Center on Oct 10th, 2019. It’s a gorgeous venue.

Tickets are $15 and include hearty hors d'oeurves and beverages. The program starts at 6:15PM and you’ll get to hear from some of the students and their mentors/tutors.

The keynote speaker is Rita Hitching, Founder of Teen Brain.

Thank to the event sponsors: Cindy Bogard-O'Gorman and LinkedIN

Also, MTC has a Volunteer Information Session coming up on October 16th. It’s where you get to hear about what it means to be a mentor, or tutor, and ask a ton of questions about the program. I went to one of these meetings and found out about the wonderful volunteer tutors in our community. MTC really needs more volunteers, especially male. Girls get a female mentors and the boys get the males. There’s a waiting list of students that want mentors. Go to the meeting and become a mentor. It’s at 5:30-6:30 in the MVLA District Office Board Room. Of course there’s totally no obligation to become a volunteer if you go to the meeting, but you’ll want to when you hear their stories of mentors and tutors that have stayed connected for years, long after the student graduated from college. It’s very rewarding for everyone involved. I love Mountain View.
